Version 2.0.2 Build 22726 PTR Patch Notes
Mapmakers in the Warcraft III: Reforged community are speaking out after a recent update made changes to a core item in the game, which they say could cause many custom maps to stop working properly.
According to a post that’s being shared around forums and social media, Blizzard edited the original
Orb of Slow ability instead of making a new one for a new Human orb item. While the change might seem small, it could have a big impact on how custom maps run.
“This can result in custom maps breaking,” the post warns. Many maps depend on the way the original Orb of Slow worked. The older Blizzard Classic team used to avoid this issue by copying and editing abilities instead of changing the originals — keeping custom content safe.
In the latest patch, Blizzard seems to have added the
Shadow Strike ability to the Orb of Slow so it can work together with the Sorceress’s Slow ability. But some players say this causes problems with the
Warden’s own Shadow Strike, which might no longer stack or behave as expected.
Even worse, changing
Shadow Strike and
Soulburn to a value of 0 has, in the past, caused
crashes — a worrying sign for mapmakers who use detailed scripting.
Blizzard hasn’t said anything official yet, but this is another example of how updates to older games can create problems for the people keeping them alive with custom content.
For now, many mapmakers are stuck waiting — either hoping Blizzard fixes the issue, or preparing to redo parts of their maps to avoid bugs and crashes. With Warcraft III’s strong custom map community, players are hoping Blizzard listens and acts fast.

While this is a work in progress and subject to change, we now plan to go live with with 2.0.2 on April 15.
